Awasu » Awasu 2.4.1 released
Saturday 1st August 2009 12:23 AM [Awasu News]

The 2.4.1 beta release [?] is now available here.

This release contains a lot of new features in several different areas, most of them in response to what people have been asking for. You spoke and we listened

The biggest area of improvement is with user tools. Amongst other things, they can now send HTTP POST requests, support HTTP authentication, can be programmed to check the response and tell the user what happened. In plain English, you can do a whole lot more with them, in particular, post to Twitter. So, if you use Twitter at all, download the new user tool and give it a whirl.

Other new features include:

  • Reports can now be run at specific times of the day, week or month.
  • New feed items can now be added to workpads as they arrive.
  • Awasu now automatically sends through authentication details when you try to access content from password-protected feeds.

And, of course, the usual slew of minor improvements and bug fixes.

As a preview of what's coming up in the next release, I'll be working closely with the Awasu Monster to embiggen Awasu's (already broad) extensibility framework (you should see his list of feature requests :bigshock: ) and there'll be an announcement soon about another interesting development in the Wonderful World Of Awasu

The download link for "Upgrade from Awasu 2.4.1.alpha1, alpha2 or alpha3" instructs us to:

"Delete the admin.exe file in the Awasu installation directory."

Is this correct? When I did this, and started Awasu Professional, it displayed an error message indicating that I should run admin.exe to upgrade the database. Should we just delete the Awasu.upgrade file instead?

>>> Should we just delete the Awasu.upgrade file instead?

Yikes, you're right (gotta love copy-and-paste  ). Fixed.

I've been using the Alpha releases for quite a while with no stability problems.

And yes the Awasu Monster has a few ideas already in the incubator stage that Taka hasn't even heard of yet, so keep your eyes and ears open as I think there will be some interesiting additions/updates to both Awasu and it's library of extensions.

To anybody with a Twitter account, download the new Twitter User Tool and tweet this release!

I have noticed that Awasu's memory usage goes up over 450MB pretty quickly. Is that normal, a function of the channels I have (only about 20), or a bug in the beta?
I have had a problem with IE growing in size too, but not this large. Could it be a related problem?

Thanks, Dean

Looks like my problem was with the Make Magazine feed - dropping that channel dropped Awasu's memory usage down to 105MB.
