Request Update On Whether Awasu & Mobile Devices

Post by JackInBpt » Sat Aug 18, 2007 12:30 pm

Hi,

My search of the forums turned up that the last time Awasu & mobile devices was discussed was in 2003.

Would someone please update whether Awasu has any plans to EVER come out with a program for use on PDAs, etc.,.

Thanks,

The plan was always to get Awasu to work with some other PDA app, rather than produce a mobile version of Awasu itself.

Most of what would be needed is already implemented in Awasu and it wouldn't be hard to set something up that exported content out of Awasu and into a PDA where another app could get at it. There's just been a certain lack of interest from our users :-)

Thank you for the very quick turn around on my question.

I presume that part of the technical issues (with concomitant developer time management constraints) would be that there are multiple OSs out there in the mobile/handheld/PDA world?

As far as a 'lack of interest" goes, how about a small "challenge"; not sure just how it could be pulled off, but the gist of my idea would be to conduct a 'interested' poll via the forum by a posting requesting same re input from forum members. May not be feasible if a lot of folks reply, but perhaps that's the only real way to get a fairly good sampling of where the need is/is not

Partly. Basically, the problem is we are self-funded and so have very limited resources and have to very carefully pick and choose what we work on. We really need to work on the things that will benefit the largest number of people and, to date, we have received very little interest in support for PDA's.

Why not? I think registered forum users can start a polll so why not? :-) Or just let us know what kind of apps you are using on your PDA that might be able to work with Awasu and we'd be happy to add whatever is required to support that,

Hello again,

I offer up the following suggestions:
(1) IF anyone sets up a posting for a poll, I would think that it would be you as the moderator, not only with regard to some rather precise phrasing of the wording, but just what you else would need to know, in addition, to determining the level of need,

(2) Since, I presume, that the registered forum members, for the most part, make only periodic, perhaps infrequent visits, to the forum, putting such a poll out there has to be done in such a way so as to attract the maximum number of participants, i. e., how can you 'advertise' that you need a great deal of input/feedback as to whether it is not only worth your time & effort, but would also appear, marketing wise, to be a financially viable endeavor; I presume that given the different mobile OSs, you would need to focus on the market that has the largest number of identical OSs,

(3) Your last comment/request has me puzzled; as a home user, with very limited technical understanding, I have no grasp of what you're asking; I can say that I have a Palm TX that I have had for 5 days and there are parts of its software that is very similar to the Windows OS, and some things that are very different. I'm at the beginning of the learning curve re what is an application, what is NOT, etc.,. I do know, that I would like my Palm to "mimic" my desktop PC to the maximum extent possible, BUT in the context of having a TINY TINY little screen, even in landscape mode, to see everything. I consider Awasu one of my 'mission critical' pieces of software, but on my Palm, its display/intervace would have to be reduced, size wise. As a home user, I have zero idea what any of the apps on my Palm would have to do with developing a mobile Awasu program.

I truly hope that this lengthy reply helps us both understand what is required, as I have no idea at all what is involved.

Regards,

I hope this is both public and detailed enough :-)

I offer up these final suggestions (hopefully),

YOU move these post to the topic section of the forums where you get the most traffic (I presume that you are able to track that and have the statistics for it); the goal here is to get as many folks to respond as can be had.

Also if you do move these posts, I would suggest that YOU edit them (and possbily combine them) for brevity, and reduce them to a single post; if you need some sort of formal permission from myself, you have it.

You may also want to change the post's "title" to something like survey/poll, and add something like 'for ALL Awasu users'.

PS Consider me signed up as a beta tester for anything that will fit on my Palm TX

The weblog gets a lot more traffic than the forums so that's probably the best place to do things. You don't need to sign up to comment either so hopefully that'll encourage people to participate.
