Initialization Failed
I just downloaded and installed Version 3.0.
Now I can't open it.
It says "Initialization failed. You are running Awasu 3.0 but your data files are 2.4."
What does that mean exactly??? I cannot go without my daily feeds!

Re: Initialization Failed
When you ran the installer, did it upgrade your installation for you (it would've started another program to do this)?
My first guess would be that you installed the software to a different directory than before?

Re: Initialization Failed
I did some digging here and found where this was an issue awhile back, so I did the fix. (Went into the c:/user/myname/appdata/roaming directory - found Awasu, and the config file. Changed the version to 3.0.
Ok - so now it opens, but immediately has other error messages. The first one is "can't load workpad" followed by "runtime error".
Still can't read my feeds - am starting to worry.....
I deleted what I thought was a "problem" channel - so now it opens...and it says it is Version 3.0.
I also deleted the workpads I have so I don't get that message.
However, it still won't get (or allow me to read) any feed! It automatically goes to runtime error and closes.

Re: Initialization Failed
I just remembered, you were the one who had this problem which would definitely explain this problem.
Unfortunately, just changing the version number in your CONFIG.INI isn't enough. If you don't mind losing your archived content, you can delete your ARCHIVE.DB file. You will also lose the contents of your workpads but your channels and settings will remain intact.

Good memory!
I deleted the archive.db file and all is well.
Thanks again. The tech support here is always a nice surprise.

Thanks. Although we try to make it so that it's not a surprise

Re: Initialization Failed
Good point!
Sadly, I find I still have an issue with this new version. When it pulls up the feeds for all my channels, on the right-hand side is a list of the posts from each individual blogger. Let's say I'm on "Sew it Right". On the side are 8 posts or so that I haven't read. I decide I only want to read the third one down, so I click on it.
At the bottom of the page, I see that it is going to that feed....but it never gets it. Eventually the program fades and I get the message that Awasu is not responding and I have to close it.
This is a new problem as I could always select a specific post before I upgraded. How can I fix this?

Is it happening for every channel? Every item? Is Awasu busy updating channels while you're doing this (open the Activity Log from the View menu to see what's happening)? Try deleting your ARCHIVE.DB file again.
What version of Windows are you running?
Also, do you have your My Channels configured to show the # of unread items in each channel? Try turning it off (Program Options|Display|My Channels) and see if it makes a difference...

Re: Initialization Failed
For the record, I did NOT delete the "archive.db" file again.
I am running Vista.
I did have My Channels configured to show the # of unread items - I did turn it off, and this appears to be what worked. Does that mean I'll never be able to use that again???
At any rate, I am able to read my feeds, and right now that's the priority. I guess I should be on that "My Strange Addiction" show....

IIRC, this was an issue that came up ages ago. It was difficult for me to reproduce and hence fix but I thought I'd nailed it. I'll have another crack at it...
