Allan,
These are the URLs I'm trying to monitor:
http://www1.kfinder.com/newweb/WhatsNew/whatsnew.html
http://www.editorialmanager.com/homepage/press.html
http://www.cadmus.com/news/
http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/about_ ... by=pubdate
http://highwire.stanford.edu/inthepress/

What's happening is that only the Elsevier link is showing on the right hand side, and it is showing 4 times. The other links are not appearing, even when I click on update channel.

Thanks!
Sue

Let me make sure I understand:

You enter the 5 URLs when you create the channel and on the first update everything looks normal. Then on subsequent updates one or more of your URLs are disappearing from the right (settings) side of the channel properties page?

Thanks

It looks like this might be a bug in Awasu.

What version are you running (check the About box)? Also, check the BUILD.INFO file in the Awasu installation directory, find the line that starts with BuildDateTime= and tell us what the rest of the line is.

Alla,
you have understood the problem correctly. I am using version 2.12 and the builddatetime line says May 22, 2005 22:55.12

Well, Taka and I identified and he already fixed my 2.1.3a3 version of Awasu where I observed a plugin loss-of-configuration problem. However, he said that would not account for any problems on the version you are running. :(

Could you please give us a more detailed explanation of what you are seeing (and what you are expecting)? If you prefer you can Alt-Prnt Scrn some graphics examples and e-mail them to me (abwilson AT awasu DOT com). That way I can see what is going on at various stages (channel properties, after refreshing the channel, etc.).

Thanks

Allan,
I will create a print screen of it and send it to you directly. None of the 3 channels I have created using the URL Monitor plug in are working. They aren't updating when the web pages are updating. The biggest problem is the example I gave you where initially I saw the url's in the right hand window but now I'm only seeing repeated links for one of the pages.

Thanks for your help in advance,
Sue

I've replied via e-mail, but decided to respond to your post too.

From the examples you sent me graphically the plug-in is seeing changes to the Websites: "The site has changed; the most recent changes were at the following times: ...".

What am I missing?

Thanks

Allan

I am trying to monitor several URLs and only one is even showing in the right hand window for the competitors channel, for instance. Although it is showing twice, which really isn't helpful or necessary, so that seems to be the other problem. I have some urls showing multiple times and others not at all, and they are staying gray, they are not turning black when there is an update. I hope this helps.

Thanks!

Here is a summary of events for a single URL Monitor plugin channel:

* Periodically -- at whatever interval you have set in Awasu -- the channel plugin is run by Awasu.

* When it runs, the plugin fetches the data from each URL in your list and "mathematically" compares it to the data from the last time the plugin ran.

* For each URL in the list the plugin creates an RSS news item in the feed it generates for Awasu to display; an item says either that a URL's contents haven't changed since the last time the plugin ran or they have (and when the change was noticed).

* The plugin quits and Awasu then displays the feed contents using whatever parameters you have set -- show only unread, etc., etc.

At this stage I'm not sure if Awasu's settings for the channel are preventing you from seeing some of the information from the plugin or if something else is happening.

Please update one of the "problem" channels and once it's finished right-click on the channel in Control Center and select "Show last feed".

Is there an RSS <item> present for each of the URLs in the channel's list? Does the changed (or not) status make sense for each <item>?

Thanks

Allan

Allan,
for the competitors channel, it is saying that the page was last updated on 8.31.05 for the 3 that aren't appearing in the right hand window when I update the channel. I of course don't know if this is correct or not, becuase I'm relying on the plug in to tell me when the site is updated. If this information is correct then why isn't the web url appearing on the right but grayed out? The elsevier link is grayed out (the one link that is showing on the right) and that site was apparently updated today, but I haven't clicked on the link, so it seems it shouldn't be grayed out.

I hope this helps,
Sue

Please have a look at my earlier post, especially the

Please update one of the "problem" channels and once it's finished right-click on the channel in Control Center and select "Show last feed".

Is there an RSS <item> present for each of the URLs in the channel's list? Does the changed (or not) status make sense for each <item>?

If you follow those steps, what are your results?

Thanks

I'm sorry Allan, I guess my answer wasn't clear. I will paste the results here for your reference. This is what I get when I choose show last feed. You will see that each of the URLs is showing here but not when I choose to update the feed:

Since an item for each monitored URL in the channel is appearing in the Show Last Feed display, it means the plugin is running and returning results (without errors as far as the plugin is concerned).

Perhaps Taka can jump in and help with the display (grayed out, etc.) issues.

Regarding the time-out on the competitors channel, this happens because the plugin is reading each URL in sequence; if some happen to be slow responding, the plugin may exceed Awasu's script time-out value, which means Awasu kills the plugin before it finishes. Some time ago I updated the CombineFeeds plugin to read multiple URLs in parallel. If I have an opportunity, I'll make a similar change to the URL Monitoring plugin; this should reduce or eliminate the incidence of time-outs.

Finally, when you create/modify a channel's properties, you should obey the warning associated with the HistoryFile parameter: If you have more than one channel associated with the URL Monitoring plugin, each such channel's HistoryFile value should be different, i.e., only one should have the default MonitorURLs.dat value. Since you are running several channels with the plugin, each instance should have a different HistoryFile value.

Allan,
I am not clear as to why a url would NOT appear in the right hand window if it is included in that channel. Also, I am not family with the History file you are refering to. I looked under channel properties but don't see it there.
Thanks!

Because Awasu does not simply display all items in a channel. There are many filtering options.

HistoryFile is one of the channel parameters. Look at the Plugin tab of the channel's properties.

Please also check your e-mail.

Thanks
