If you're running 2.2 and you haven't been subscribed to these channels for too long, empty feeds shouldn't cause a problem. If they are, it will be flagged in the Errors page of the channel's Properties dialog.

They're probably getting the errors because of the "connect and log on to an FTP server" problem. This one I can't explain but I suspect it's something wrong at MS's end.

ANSWER: Microsoft Products RSS Feeds page for non US

Post by Nev » Mon Dec 19, 2005 10:34 am

I just spotted this thread whilst browsing the forums and have a solution. It only applies to UK (United Kingdom) and some other non-US users.

This relates to the RSS feeds at the following "URL:

RSS Feed Product Index
http://support.microsoft.com/selectindex/?target=rss

Firstly the problem *is* with the feeds page. There is a localisation issue which means the feeds' URLs presented (if you are in the UK or some other places) only ever return BLANK content.

HERE'S HOW TO FIX IT:

Click on your product of interest. Let's take "Office 2003".

If you are in the UK, the URL provided is

http://support.microsoft.com/common/rss.aspx?rssid=2488&ln=en-gb&msid=b4500baaba50412f99ba7bb0d8c8a401

In the above URL, the red part is fine, but we need to add -us instead of the -gb&msid=**********" That is, just make the URL end with en-us.

So, the correct URL looks like this:

http://support.microsoft.com/common/rss.aspx?rssid=2488&ln=en-us

Now the recent Microsoft knowledgebase articles are returned in the browser and Awasu once the channel is set up.

Do this same trick (make it end en-us) for which ever product you are interested in.

I have reported this to Microsoft and they are aware of the issue.

Nev,

Thanks for the info - it works for most of my channels.

The one for Autoroute Europe 2005 doesn't - but then you wouldn't expect a us version of that :D
