Errors on MSN Spaces

Post by hollowplaces » Wed Nov 02, 2005 11:53 pm

I keep finding that when reading a blog on MSN spaces, after a while it keeps getting parsing errors. Other RSS readers seem to have no problem with MSN. Any ideas what is causing this? With the new v2.2 the error log just says invalid protocol https.

SSL feeds (those that start with https:// instead of http://) are not available in the Personal Edition.

Do you have some example feed URL's?

I understand that, but in fact MSN RSS feeds are not SSL. They are http:// pages. Have a look at my own RSS feed from MSN:

http://spaces.msn.com/members/hollyer/feed.rss

Why is this source not working with Awasu? (It works to begin with, but later exhibits these errors)

Thanks for the quick response and I'd like to get this sorted because Awasu is the best reader I've found so far.

The error message you gave is definitely because Awasu tried to update an SSL channel. However, did it definitely come from your channel or might it have come from another one?

To be sure, next time it happens, open your channel's Properties dialog and check the Errors page.

I've been running the feed for the last few hours; it started off fine. I just noticed there have been several error updates. This was the last contents of the feed:

Code: Select all

<html><head><meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="0; URL=http://spaces.msn.com/members/hollyer/feed.rss?t=70Ia5qu35BQ82xkPYMMhY4v!J7Jo2tsM9MVNCkGZu8iZzzJPj4*c8J4VVlQ3z37K7*rhbcmlY4aYKiXLQml7ICBCtnyGIiZD2zdi5HGU6kxwp0n5FeZyo3xw$$&p=7t7wYOuXzAejOuM!hFP7INbr*98F6gIIX1m1D3VXOnGo*whxQHBkC7YgbPid!4zsSCQJerVATv*gDIU2Lp*kM1MohktdhJtTT9BO9dnmEuF6tHF2TwrDDoBbYXGCPziOJAJ1WFImc8lhN6**2HouWT0nzBEhgl5RVlkg6kcy2HeL3xs7X0ZP4sFp67FBCKGoW*l3Qu1zuRjEw$&"><script type="text/javascript">function OnBack(){}</script></head></html>

I have no idea what this is...

This is a way to send a browser off to another URL. Note the http-equiv="REFRESH" and URL=... parameters in the <meta> tag. It works for browsers but is totally wrong for RSS readers.

This is a problem at the MSN end. I've got no idea why they are doing this - it's completely and utterly borked.
