Awasu Personal Edition v2.0.2 (beta)

UPDATE: This beta has expired. Please check the releases page for information about the latest releases.

This is a beta release. Some features may not be complete and the software may be unstable. Install at your own risk! You may need to do some basic computer maintenance tasks to get this release to run.

You must already be running 2.0.1. As always, exit Awasu and back up your installation first!

  • Unpack the following zip on top of your existing files:

    • If you have purchased the Advanced Edition, you can get it here.
    • If you are running Windows 98/Me, please download this release from here instead.

  • Copy the DefaultSearchResults.template from the $/Resources/Search Result Templates to your user's sub-directory e.g.
        C:\Program Files\Awasu\Resources\Search Result Templates\DefaultSearchResults.template
            => C:\Program Files\Awasu\Users\YOUR-NAME\Search Result Templates\
  • Run ArchiveMaintenance.exe (in the Awasu installation directory) and choose Rebuild index. This may take several minutes to run if you have a lot of archived content.

  • If you like to be tidy, you can also delete all files in the Logs sub-directory.

Major new features

  • Added support for Atom (version 0.3) feeds. If you are using the atom2rss XSLT, it will no longer be applied but if you like to be tidy, it would be a good idea to remove it from those channels using it.

  • Added the ability to search archived content. The query syntax is described here. Note that the query parser is still a little flaky and this will be addressed in the next release.

  • Added search agents. These monitor incoming content and flag items and channels that match the search terms you are interested in. For example, you might want to watch for items that match "Saddam Hussein trial" or "Longhorn AND Avalon".

There is a new tab in the Control Center that shows your search agents and you can create new ones by choosing File|New search agent. Channels and items that have been matched by a search agent are flagged with a different icon and you can also specify that they be shown in different colours.

  • Added integrated support for using Mozilla as the embedded browser. Check the FAQ for details.

  • Added support for XML redirects. This allows feeds to be redirected to a new URL even if the publisher does not have the ability to modify their web server to return HTTP 301/302's.

  • Added the ability to FTP reports somewhere after they have been generated. This is really useful for things like your blogroll - you can set up a report to be generated once every few hours and sent to your weblog where it will always be up-to-date!

Minor features and bug fixes

  • Relative links in RSS feeds are now translated into absolute ones (relative to the domain root).

  • Channels can now have an expiry date specified when they are created. When channels expire, you will be asked if you want to keep or delete them.

  • Added a switch to the UI (Program Options, Advanced tab) to control the maximum number of simultaneous channel updates. Lowering this value should help make the UI more responsive if you have been finding it sluggish or sometimes hanging.

This issue will be addressed in the next release.

  • Fixed the problem where a sync load or save sometimes couldn't be performed because channel updates couldn't be suspended.

  • Added a DisableCreateChannelAction command to allow the prevention of channels being created during a sync.

  • Added the ability for plugins to store their own data in channel config files (.CHANNEL) and the global options file (CONFIG.INI).

  • Added more template parameters. Check this forum post for details.

  • Allow channel names to be inserted into Workpad reports (via the {%CHANNEL-NAME%} parameter).

  • Stopped Awasu from automatically optimizing the archiving database and moved this function to the ArchiveMaintenance utility.

  • Bug fixes and optimizations.
