Just updated from 2.4.3 to 2.4.4.
All Ok but email of channel reports now fails with RC=1 (worked immediately before update)

pls, any idea where to look ?

Yup, this is a bug. The workaround is to have a non-empty subject in the email config.

Did it really work in 2.4.3? I've been able to reproduce this all the way back to 2.4!

Yes, this is what I'm saying. There is a bug going back to 2.4 (and probably beyond) that stops emails from being sent out if the subject line is empty.

When you say there is content in the subject line, are you talking about in the email you receive or in the report configuration? Normally in a case like this, if the user doesn't configure anything, I'd get Awasu to auto-generate something but looking at the old code, it doesn't do this.

edit: Or are you saying that report config has something in the subject line, it used to work in 2.4.3 but doesn't in 2.4.4 (even with a non-blank subject)?
