Hi - I emailed this to support@awasu.com also
I was prompted to compact the database last week which I did. Ever since I get the message 'Initialization failed. Missing datafiles string version'. when I try to start up Awasu. Is there a fix or do I have to re-install Awasu? If I have to re-install could you send the download link please? Graham _________________ Graham |

I'm not an expert on this but you might check your config.ini file.
I just did a little config.ini file hacking to confirm this. config.ini should be stored in a location like this on Windows XP where [User Name] is your user name: C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Awasu\config.ini Open your config.ini file in a text editor like Notepad and look for the [System] section you should see a version number: Code: [System] Version=3.0 If this version number setting is missing you will see the 'Initialization failed. Missing datafiles string version' error message. If this version number setting is present but different than your Awasu version (hack in '3.1' to see what I mean) you will see a different error message: 'Initialization failed. You are running Awasu 3.0, but your data files are from version 3.1' So my guess is that all or part of this is missing from your config.ini file: Code: [System] Version=3.0 You might want to check to see what version of Awasu.exe and admin.exe, you have by right clicking each file and checking their "Properties". These files are typically stored in (Windows XP): C:\Program Files\Awasu\ HTH |

Yep, what kevotheclone said
This problem wasn't caused by compacting the database, it typically happens because Awasu or your PC crashed at just the wrong moment, when it was writing out to the config.ini file and it got corrupted. You'll usually see a zero-length file, or a truncated file. If you have a backup of this file, just restore it and you'll be right, otherwise open it in an editor and add in the necessary magic i.e. Code: [System] Version=3.0 |

Thanks - Awasu is working again.
I had to set folder options to see hidden files then added [System] /Version=3.0 to config.ini _________________ Graham |
